This 18-acre landscaped city park was once the residence of Aldolph Sutro,
a former Comstock silver mine owner and latter became a full-time resident of
the city and was the city's Mayor for a time. In addition to having the park
as his residence he owned and operated the Cliff House and his public Sutro
Baths. The park at one time contained many structures including Sutro's
residence and a large greenhouse conservatory. Today these structures are
gone but the Park is still a great place for scenic walks, picnics and an
occasional wedding cermony at the Gazebo. The park offers probably the best
ocean views in the city especially the dramatic overlook of the Cliff House
and Seal Rocks. Today Sutro Heights Park has become a popular setting for
outdoor weddings
which can be arranged through the National Park Service.
